Welcome to The
official CSI: New York
"Cast and Crew Views" Interviews
ANNA BELKNAP -
LINDSAY MONROE
On
Lindsay’s past:
AB: The
writers have been smart to drop very subtle hints about Lindsay’s past into
the scripts, and it makes people go crazy about what might have happened to
Lindsay. She’s normally happy, but then there are these moments where you
see that something really bad happened to her.
Lindsay
hints at having a problem confronting mothers. You see that she does not
want to confront the mother of a young girl who was killed because she can’t
handle it. She abruptly asks Danny to handle it and takes off and she
realizes at the end of the episode that she needs to be able to handle these
types of situations.
On Danny and Lindsay:
AB:
At the end of last season, the audience sees that Danny and Lindsay like
each other and it’s touching, and then I get this script where I realize
that I have to stand him up and I felt bad. I tell him I can’t do this
anymore. Lindsay wants to be together, but this monster thing is eating at
her.
On Mac and Peyton:
AB: I
think Lindsay would be happy for Mac if she found out about their
relationship. Peyton brings Mac out of his shell a little bit, and Lindsay
likes that.
On “Hung Out to Dry” Episode
#304:
(A
serial murderer who leaves his victims in coded t-shirts is on the loose.
The team struggles to decode his mythological clues and put their main
suspect behind bars.)
AB: This
episode is really gory. When we see that headless corpse swinging around on
the ceiling fan, what we see is this very athletic young girl that hops up
there and puts a green bag on her head that they can then CGI out – so that
one wasn’t as bad as when the guy gets spiked through the eyes- that was
gross. It’s funny when we cut, and the guy with spikes through his eyes says
“Hey what’s up?”
On her family’s reaction to the
show:
AB: My
family loves the show. They feel like they see me every week even though
they live on the east coast and are 3,000 miles away. They don’t know what
to make of me on a show that is so gory though, with me being so serious. I
was always the cut-up in the family.
On her pregnancy:
AB: I
called the boss in June to let them know that I’m pregnant, and for a while
I think they tried to work it in. However, apparently because of all the
chemicals even real CSIs are not allowed to work in the lab during a
pregnancy. We’ve been hiding it; which is very difficult.
We’ve been
hiding the pregnancy in many different ways. I carry a lot of folders and I
stand directly in front of microscopes. There’s one scene where Stella is
standing with a folder and literally holding it in front of my belly. I have
to remember that Lindsay’s not pregnant.
On
what she likes about the job:
AB:
It’s nice to have a steady job where you can explore a character over a long
period of time. It’s neat to get a new script every eight days where you get
more insight to a character.
The
toughest part of the job:
AB: The
toughest part is getting the technical lines down. You have to make it sound
like you know what you are talking about.
On “Raising
Shane” Episode #311:
(When
Hawkes is framed for shooting a bartender and then later sent to prison, the
team takes to the street to set their investigator free. A surprise visit
from Shane Casey later explains the death of a man at a peep show and Hawkes’
compromising situation.)
AB:
Lindsay never thought that Hawkes was guilty. What’s scary about it is how
well Hawkes was framed. The scary thing is not so much is he a murderer, but
how are we going to prove that he’s innocent when we are not allowed in the
room where they are processing the evidence.
What’s in store for Lindsay?
AB: This
season you will learn more about what happened to Lindsay. I hope that once
this is addressed she can further her relationship with Danny.
