It’s a hot summer morning as Mac and newly promoted CSI, Hawkes,
push through the sweltering crowd at 33rd and 5th Avenue to reach their
newest victim – world-famous free climber who fallen to his death from
the Empire State Building. The free climber was world famous… he never
fell. So, what happened? A smashed cell phone found in the climbers hand
suggests that he was trying to call 911 – from 35 floors up. But why?
Mac realizes that the climber didn’t just fall – he witnessed a murder
on the 35th floor and was dialing for help. On the inside of the
building, the team finds the dead body of Lee Dillard, a successful
attorney along with a solitary mosquito.
Additional evidence left at the scene points to three potential
suspects: the victim’s estranged wife, pompous business partner and his
embittered assistant. Interviews with the suspects are fruitless—they
all have secrets to hide, so it’s back to the evidence. But the mosquito
has come to the rescue: Mac explains that the mosquito is filled with
male DNA. Both the vic’s and the possible perp. This eliminates the
wife, leaving the partner and the assistant, Neil. Further analysis
proves that the blood in the mosquito is not a match to the DNA of the
partner’s palm print, leaving only suspect: the assistant. The victim
was a demanding guy, but was that reason enough to kill him? Mac turns
once again to the mosquito to gather the final evidence he needs, and in
doing so realizes that the ultimate answer to why the victim was killed
may lie more with who was watching the murder than with who actually
committed it.
Danny and Stella catch a high profile case when they find a famous male
jewelry designer dead wearing an eight million dollar diamond bra – The
famous Dazzle Diamond Bra. Why kill the guy and not take the bra? What
could be more valuable than that? The answer is revealed during the
autopsy when a sizable teardrop diamond is found in the stomach of our
victim. He swallowed the most valuable part of the bra – a $6 million
dollar diamond -- obviously to prevent it from being stolen. But we
quickly learn that he swallowed a fake. Stella and Danny’s investigation
takes them into the world of high fashion, beautiful models and
diamonds; greed is as good a motive as any for murder and theft. But the
bigger question turns out to be who was able to steal the real diamond
and hide it in plain sight?
Aiden revisits an unresolved case after the victim claims she was raped,
once again, by the same man. But there’s little physical evidence. Will
Aiden’s determination to solve the case and bring justice to the
emotionally distraught victim lead her to a career-ending decision?
