Season 2 - Episode 17 - Necrophilia Americana

Written by Andrew Lipsitz
Directed by Steven DePaul

Mac and Stella find their victim, partially eaten by Carrion Beetles, in the middle of a diorama at a natural history museum. Ceci Astor, the granddaughter of a wealthy family who had their own wing at the institution, was an employee at the museum. After examination of the crime scene, Stella finds a chiseled iron dagger dating back to the fourteenth century with blood on it. Mac discovers a frightened young boy who witnessed the crime. Back in the lab, Hawkes boils the victim in a highly potent mixture intended to pare her down to the bone. After the process, Hawkes concludes that she was stabbed in her brain stem; ultimately ending in death. Carolyn Astor, the victim’s sister, and her husband Stewart DeCaro meet up with Mac at his office, and state that they have never seen the young boy before. Lindsey examines the beetles and takes traces, while Stella takes the blood on the knife to the lab and dusts for prints. Jose Martinez’s prints are a match to those found on the knife. Just so happens, he’s also a maintenance worker from the museum and the young boy’s non-biological father. Meanwhile, Lindsay searches the victim’s apartment and finds a vial of blood in the freezer that matches up with the young boy’s DNA. The CSIs determine that the boy is the victim’s nephew; making Carolyn the mother. With several suspects in the limelight, the CSIs try to determine the art behind what seems to be the perfect crime.

Across town, Danny and Flack examine the body of Jim Morris, laid out next to a newly poured concrete walkway. The CSIs notice slight facial bruising, but no blood. In a near-by trashcan, Danny finds an empty can of Handi-Foam insulation. The murderer stuck the can of Handi-Foam in the victim’s mouth and released the contents causing his airway to become blocked. Danny and Flack dust the empty can for traces and call in a George Clark, whose alibi sets him free. When they examine the victim’s clothes they find carbon fiber, his hand has traces of cabretta leather on it, and surlyn is also found at the scene of the crime. All elements are associated with golf gear. Danny and Flack find themselves back at the crime scene, where they learn that golf is a popular sport amongst construction workers when they pull a golf ball from a hole in the concrete with the logo “Five Borough Golfers” and the initials F.O.B. Out of their element, Danny and Flack find themselves on the streets of New York where construction and competition make for an unsolved mystery.
