CSI:New York
Season 2 -
Episode 19 - Super Men
Teleplay by Peter M. Lenkov and Pam Veasey
Directed by Steven DePaul
In the midst of fighting crime in the city, Mac and Stella are called in
to investigate the death of a man dressed in a superhero costume. Mac
looks through the victim’s wallet and realizes that it belongs to a
Matthew Palmer. However, Matthew Palmer is alive and well so the
unanswered question is: what is the victim doing with Palmer’s wallet?
In the interrogation room, Palmer tells Flack that he was assaulted at
an ATM machine and the superhero came to his rescue. Wannabe superman
ran after the criminal who stole Palmer’s wallet. The CSIs deduce that
their victim was killed while trying to regain the wallet.
Back at the lab, Hammerback finds several weapon remnants in the
victim’s body, none of which are related to the murder. Hawkes pulls
glass from the disheveled superhero suit, which turns out to have traces
of Krypton on it. Flack tracks down the security tapes from the ATM
machine, and concludes that junkie Carter England stole Palmer’s wallet.
Carter confesses that he stole the wallet, gave the money to a drug
dealer, and took off. Carter explains that the drug dealer gave him a
prescription and he gives Flack a physical description of what the man
looked like.
Meanwhile, Hawkes confirms that the victim was taking an anti-psychotic
drug and an anti-depressant. Mac heads to the asylum to question Dr.
Burr., who matches up with Carter’s physical description. Burr tells Mac
that he’s not in the profession of selling prescriptions and refers him
to an orderly that was “close” with the victim. With a host of suspects
that could have killed superman, the CSIs weigh the evidence to bring
justice once and for all.
On the other side of town, Danny and Lindsay head over to the swanky
Hillhurst Hotel where they find football superstar Tyrell Mann lying in
a pool of blood. Danny examines the body and finds a puncture wound on
the neck; too big to be from a syringe. He also bags toothpicks from a
sandwich found at the scene, and he studies the tooth marks imprinted on
the bread. Lindsay surveys the sheets, and finds numbers smeared in
lipstick. Pino finds numbers written on the victim’s chest in what
appears to be lipstick. Danny and Lindsay confirm that the blood taken
from the victim’s ring and the DNA from the lipstick on the sandwich are
from a female. Pino confirms that the cause of death was air embolism;
something penetrated the victim’s neck and due to negative pressure in
the veins, the blood was sucked towards his heart. In the interim, Danny
finds the victim’s agent Rodney Pruitt. The usual suspect, Pruitt was
pumping the football star with illegal drugs to sustain an injury. With
two suspects in the limelight, the CSIs question whether the murderer
was Mann’s money-hungry agent or his unfulfilled lady friend.
