Things get murky for the CSIs when a businessman finds a dead “mermaid” off New York’s coast. The young girl, dressed in a blue sequin mermaid costume, is pulled from the water after being submerged for eight hours. Lindsay and Danny quickly conclude that the victim was killed on land and dumped into the ocean. While examining the victim‘s corpse and costume, Lindsay finds a $100 bill and a water-damaged check with KLME written on it. When she tracks the check, Lindsay questions Paul White, who says he hired the victim to sing at his daughter’s birthday party which was held on his company’s boat. White says the victim dropped her purse in the ocean, and he gave her an extra $100 for the trouble. Meanwhile, Danny searches the master bedroom on the ship and confirms that there are male and female sex stains on the bed sheets. A sequin from the victim’s dress is also found in the sheets. Lindsay decides to return to an area close to where the victim was found in the water. She finds numerous sequins from the victim’s dress, as well as a comb. Lindsay tracks the prints on the comb to a James Vackner. She also finds mud on James’ shoe that matches the dirt near the crime scene. With two suspects on their radar, Lindsay and Danny weigh the evidence while trying to bring justice to the tale.
Across town, Mac and Stella investigate the death of Mark Jeffries; a man in a committed threesome with two women. Mark is found shot to death outside his brownstone, with a bullet in his eye. When Stella meets wife number two, Laura Jeffries, she tests for gun residue on her hands. Stella confirms that there is an unusual pattern of gun residue on Laura’s pinky fingers only. The team’s next suspect is guest star to the threesome Kevin Davis. When Mac hunts down Davis he finds plenty of motive for the crime. Davis is jealous of Mark for having first priority with the ladies, and Davis is having a secret affair with wife number one only. The only problem is the bullets in Davis' gun don't match up with the bullet found in the victim's eye. Did the jealous pinch hitter Kevin Davis take Mark out of the picture, or was it one of his unsatisfied wives?
