CSI:New YorkSeason 3 - Episode 4 - Hung Out to Dry
Written by Zachary Reiter When a decapitated sorority sister is found tied to a ceiling fan with twine at a Hawaiian-themed college party, Mac and Stella are called to the scene to investigate. They notice an Ethan Tierney in a coconut thong that is tied on with twine passed out in an empty inflatable pool. They notice that his thong matches the material used to tie Amy’s feet to the fan. Flack notices the smell of burned flesh and a t-shirt covering the victim’s head. He later realizes she was decapitated. Stella notes that the killer took the head with him. Flack interviews a Shane Casey: the only person that appears to be somewhat sober. He is wearing a coded t-shirt and a Hawaiian straw skirt as well. Sid notes that the victim’s head was seared off, and that she had consumed a great deal of alcohol. However, she was negative for rape. Hawkes finds coconut residue on the victim’s body. Stella remembers that Ethan was wearing a coconut thong, and tracks him down for questioning. Ethan admits that he slept with Amy that night, but passed out and doesn’t remember what happened. However, he does remember that he tied the twine around her neck as a sexual act. Meanwhile, a jogger reports that he found Amy’s severed head under a rock at a nearby park. The head is wrapped in t-shirt material which has an illustration of six dragon heads on it, and the words everything and nothing 3. Hawkes notes that the symbol and saying are related to Greek mythology. The t-shirt label reads kodecon.com. Danny remembers that Shane, from the party, was wearing a t-shirt with a similar logo on it. Shane confesses that the logos on the t-shirts are part of a murder mystery game. Hours later, Flack finds the body of a dead bouncer. He is wearing a t-shirt depicting a peacock with several eyes on it. His eyes have been gouged out with railroad stakes. Stella ties this symbol back to Greek mythology, and reads the word consciousness amongst the artwork on his chest. Hawkes confirms that mushroom extract was used to brand the t-shirts. Stella types these codes into the website and sees a video in which a young boy is blowing bubbles. Hawkes sees a building in the background, locates it on a map, and decides the team should go there. They enter an abandoned apartment where Shane Casey was supposedly living that contains all the necessary evidence to get their guy: mushroom extract, a few of the coded t-shirts and railroad stakes. When they read a docket number on one of the t-shirts they realize that Shane is Ian Casey’s brother. Ian was found guilty of murder and Amy and the second victim helped put him in jail. When the team realizes Hawkes was a deciding factor in the case, they fear he might be the next victim on Shane’s hit list. |
