Dr Sid Hammerback" (Robert Joy)

 

Known for his jokes and wry sense of humour, coroner Dr Sid Hammerback analyses the evidence that cracks the cases. His trademark is his pull-apart glasses which add to the zaniness of his character.

Robert Joy has played character roles in dozens of films and television shows, including comedies: “Desperately Seeking Susan,” “Harriet the Spy,” “Joe Somebody,” “Everybody Loves Raymond,” “Malcolm in the Middle,”; dramas: “Ragtime,” “Sweet November,” “Fallen,” “Medium,” “E-Ring,” “Without a Trace,” “Law and Order,” and horror films: “The Hills Have Eyes,” “Land of the Dead,” and “The Dark Half.”

Joy’s theater career includes Broadway, off-Broadway, regional theater, Shakespeare in the Park (central park, that is) and three years in the Newfoundland comedy group CODCO. He won a Drama Logue award for his performance as Mercutio in “Romeo and Juliet” at the La Jolla Playhouse.

Born in Montreal, Joy was raised in St. John’s, Newfoundland, Canada. He was educated at Memorial University of Newfoundland, the University of Toronto, and Oxford University (where he was a Rhodes scholar). His birthday is August 17.
