Mac is back in town. And New York City has quite a hero’s welcome planned for him. Before he even has an opportunity to touch U.S. soil, Mac learns of his first victim – female green, 151 feet tall, 225 tons, date of birth June 4, 1884. She didn’t have a driver’s license on her but we have an I.D. -- The Statue of Liberty. When Mac arrives, he sees Lady Liberty’s face stained with blood! A personal affront to Mac who has dedicated his life protecting the very freedoms for which Lady Liberty stands. Along with the body of a female security guard, the culprit has left clues hinting that this is just the beginning. When Mac looks through a Liberty Island viewfinder, he sees a second victim positioned across the water, “2 More Will Die” written in blood on his shirt. The clock is ticking -- welcome home. But this case isn’t the only thing that has Mac a little shaken. During the episode, Mac discloses to Stella he received a series of phone calls while in London, each one at precisely 3:33 am, each one a hang up. This isn’t just a prank, it feels personal. And it’s not over. Focusing on the Liberty case, Mac and his team race to process the clues which include a viewmaster containing a series of photos of a bound and gagged victim, and a music box recovered from a victim’s throat. They lead to a three-year-old unsolved murder of a beautiful, young concert pianist. A prodigy taken too soon from the world. Linking the clues to the unsolved case, we learn of the Rear Window-esque relationship that New York City neighbors have and their unwillingness to come forward with information regarding the pianist’s murder. Ultimately our killer targets these neighbors, incensed that they would turn a blind eye to his muse’s murder and to justice. The ride reaches a crescendo when Mac and the CSI’s take down both our vigilante and the pianist’s murderer during a concert at Lincoln Center. With the case solved, Mac returns to his office late at night, tired and jet-lagged. He settles into his chair and begins to close his eyes when the phone rings. Mac looks at the clock – 3:33 am.
