Written by
Wendy Battles A sailboat race to Staten Island takes an unexpected tack when one of the boats nearly collides with a dead scuba diving instructor floating in the Hudson. Autopsy reveals that this was no accident. Traces of cyanide gas were found in the victim’s lung tissue. A combination of marine trace and asbestos points our CSI’s to an artificial reef made of discarded subway cars stacked up at the bottom of the Husdon. Once our team submerges to explore the reef, they find yet another dead scuba diver. The diving partner of the first victim. Tissue analysis reveals both bodies were killed the same way, at the same time, but in another location – a shipwreck from the 1700’s. A gold coin found on the second victim indicate the diving partners were probably hunting for buried treasure. However, after analyzing the coin, Stella discovers it’s a fake. Perhaps the divers were double-crossed by their killer once the treasure was found? Using sophisticated Side Scan Sonar, our CSI’s are able to locate the sunken vessel; a small Greek ship from the 1700’s rumored to have been carrying a fortune when it sunk. Forensic evidence collected from the environs around the ship lead our team to two young students who took scuba diving lessons from the victims. When Mac and Stella go to question these students, they stumble onto something much larger and more nefarious than simple murder. As Mac chases down one of the suspects, Stella searches the students’ apartment and discovers underwater photographs of tunnels, sewer lines, aerial photographs of the East River, wielding equipment and finally, traces of uranium. She suddenly realizes they’ve stumbled onto a plot to blow up a target along the East River. But what? The target is the motorcade of a controversial foreign official scheduled to address the United Nations. And the clock is ticking. As the motorcade departs City Hall and heads North on the FDR, Mac leads the city bomb squad to an abandoned sewer adjacent to the river. In the dramatic final scene, the bomb is disarmed and the bad guy apprehended. |
