Mitchell Bentley, a wealthy, good-looking 30 year-old man, is found dead – four knives protruding from his back. He had recently been acquitted of raping a woman named Fern Lazlow, a nurse, who is now accused of having killed him. Det. Flack arrests her in her apartment after she had tried to dispose of her blood soaked clothes and was washing her hands of Bentley’s blood. Stella finds a bloody Band-Aid at the scene, and Mac notices a bloody handprint on Bentley’s neck. Fern says that she was walking home from the hospital when she saw the body, she checked for a pulse, then saw it was Bentley, became frightened and ran from the scene.

Meanwhile, Danny and Lindsay begin investigating a murder of a woman named Joanna Morgan. A man named Matt Fella, the head of security, discovered her body on the steps of the museum. What the CSIs initially believed to be an exit wound is ultimately found to be an entry wound. From the point of entrance, the shooter would have had to have been behind her, and the bullet would have struck the shooter as well. So the CSI team starts looking for men with wounded shoulders.

Kendall later finds a partial shoe print on the bandage found at the scene, as well as a chad. She is ultimately able to identify it as an Ian Burton shoe, which is only sold at one store. They come to find that Joanna had recently purchased a pair of these shoes in the size they are looking for.

The CSI team discovers that Amber Stanton, a beautiful CEO, had dinner with Bentley the night of his murder. Later, they discover that both Joanna and Amber had the same type of food poisoning, and they are later able to identify Amber’s DNA from a piece of hair to the DNA left on the knives in Bentley’s back. She and Joanna had met on their morning commutes into the city, and had become friends. They had both been victims of rape, and decided to avenge rapists that had gotten away with their crimes. She murdered Bentley in honor of Fern, not realizing that Fern’s instinct, as a nurse, would put her in a compromising situation. Joanna, on the other hand, had been with Terry Mayford, a man who was acquitted of murder, and he had recently gone into an ER for food poisoning and demanded painkillers. They discover that he has a bullet wound in his shoulder, and Mayford claims self-defense in killing Joanna because she had tried to kill him.
